‘Empena’
Empena is een Braziliaans woord voor blinde muren tussen gebouwen. Een betonnen oppervlakte die gebouwd werd zonder ramen of deuren, wachtend op de aanbouw van een ander gebouw. Als empena’s geen buren hebben, worden ze ideale aanplakmuren voor advertenties of een geliefkoosd canvas voor politieke grafitti.
Tijdens KONVOOI zal Luca Tornato laserprojecties uitvoeren op de twee empena’s op het Groot Handelsdok, op 100 meter afstand.
Luca Tornato (°1997, São Paulo, BR)
Luca Tornato (b. 1997 in São Paulo, BR) is currently studying at the ArtScience Interfaculty at the Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague (NL). With a background in electrical engineering, and heavily influenced by expanded cinema and early computer graphics, he hoards old analog video equipment giving them a second and final chance to create videoart, performances, and installations.
Every piece of technological device secretly encloses a history of decisions, usually made up by dominant ideologies at the time of their design. At the moment, Luca is busy shooting lasers at surveillance cameras. Another interest is ephemeral guerilla acts, such as quick public projections as an insurgence weapon and call to action against the rise of far-right agendas.
